Long-separated celebrities finally begin divorce

For many, the prospect of beginning a divorce may not be an appealing one. Financial upheaval, drawn-out personal grievances, and a new life as a divorcee are all intimidating to say the least. However, carrying on a marriage after it has become defunct can be especially detrimental to the inevitable life beyond it.

Two celebrities well-known to many Texas residents began the divorce process last week after a particularly lengthy period of ambiguous separation. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, married in 2005, will soon begin divorce litigation after Kutcher filed for divorce Friday. The couple had been separated since November 2011 after Kutcher was found to be having an affair with a 23-year-old.

Citing irreconcilable differences, Kutcher's filings do not mention a prenuptial agreement. The 50-year-old Moore herself had asserted last year that she was ending her marriage to the 34-year-old actor, but has since never submitted legal paperwork. Kutcher's documents were filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Since separating from Moore, Kutcher's star has risen considerably on account of his role on the CBS program "Two and a Half Men." The actor's role on the series netted him $24 million last year, a rise in income that may have had a strong influence on his decision to begin the divorce before IRS tax filings are due in April.

Although Kutcher and Moore may have had their own reasons for waiting until now to divorce, the two will almost certainly feel relieved and free once the process is finished and its terms are settled. With the help of a lawyer versed in family law, a quick and favorable divorce can be secured.
