The cost of getting divorced

In every state in the country including Texas, every day there are couples that make the difficult decision to get divorced. During the process of divorce, many practical issues arise that must be faced while also managing personal emotions. These can include child custody and associated visitation plans, child support and spousal support. Other divorce legal issues pertaining to property division determinations can be affected by the existence of prenuptial agreements.

Even though financial differences or challenges are frequently quoted as stressors in marriages, finances can actually be a factor that makes pursuing divorce hard for some people. The cost of getting divorced includes many things and varies greatly depending upon the complexity of each individual situation. At a minimum, all couples must at least pay a filing fee to the local courts when initiating the legal portion of their divorces.

A recent report has been issued which highlights quite a disparity between the 50 states and the District of Columbia relating to these filing fees. Across the nation, fees can be as low as Mississippi’s $52 or as high as Florida’s $409. People who pursue divorces are encouraged to be aware of these costs and also monitor their finances throughout their divorces to maintain credit worthiness and bank account stability.

When decisions involving the end of a marriage are at hand, husbands and wives may benefit from external, professional guidance. Working with a trusted and experienced attorney is one way that some people navigate the range of divorce issues and complexities.
