Former Jackson 5 member headed for divorce

When couples divorce in San Antonio divorce, the common school of thought may be that abuse or infidelity may have been involved. However, in many divorce cases, some couples cite irreconcilable differences as the grounds for their separation. As the name implies, irreconcilable differences are defined as one or both parties to a marriage determining that they are unable to reconcile with the each other over the differences contributing to their marital strife. Once this point is reached, both may decide it better for the marriage to be over given the potential for further discord.

Irreconcilable differences has become the proper manner of expressing deep philosophical and emotional disagreements between a couple rather than forcing them to go into detail about them. This was the reason given by Halima Rashid, the soon-to-be ex-wife of entertainer Jermaine Jackson. In a recent court filing petitioning for divorce, Rashid revealed that the couple had been living apart since November of last year. Their separation ends a 12-year marriage which was the third for the former Jackson 5 member. No comments were reported from Jackson regarding the separation.

Even in cases where the only cause for divorce may be irreconcilable differences, common issues inherent with regular divorce proceedings still apply. For example, in her divorce petition, Rashid asked that she be awarded spousal support from Jackson. While the reason behind one’s decision to divorce may have little bearing on what the court may or may not award to a petitioner, his or her simply citing something like irreconcilable differences could. One might assume that were a person truly dependent on an ex-spouses support, he or she may have done more to make the marriage work. However, these notions may be overcome, provided one has a capable attorney on his or her side.
