Very rarely does it happen during a divorce in San Antonio that the two sides agree on everything. A huge point of argument may be over who gets custody of the children.
This was the case for former Cowboy’s football player Deion Sanders and his estranged wife, Pilar. They recently wrapped up their child custody hearing after two weeks. The hearing got quite brutal at times, with each side making allegations against the other. These allegations including steroid use, employment through a phone sex line, keeping guns where the children could access them, and abuse of the children.
When all was said and done, the jury decided to award the couple joint custody of their 9-year-old daughter. Sole custody of the 13 and 11-year-old was awarded to Deion. Although he shares custody of his daughter, the jury gave him the right to say where the girl will reside.
Not surprising, Pilar was not satisfied with the decision and has plans to appeal. She believed Deion received preferential treatment because of his history with the Cowboys. She indicated that she felt like her estranged husband put on an act, and the jury bought it.
Unfortunately, these types of negative attacks on the former or estranged spouse are not uncommon in court, especially when it comes time to decide who gets custody of the children. Some people will go to any lengths to make sure their interests are protected and that the other party suffers. If you are fighting for custody of your children, consider speaking to a lawyer who can help you with your case.
