Economy could play role in higher divorce rate going forward

Although divorce is generally looked upon as a negative thing, nearly half of all marriages end that way, according to many reports. There are many different factors that can lead to a couple in the San Antonio area deciding to end their marriage. Likewise there are other factors that can lead a couple to decode to stick it out a little longer.

According to new research that will be published soon in the journal of Population Research and Policy Review, divorce rates are on the rise and the economy could be a significant factor in that trend. The paper, which was authored by University of Maryland sociologist Philip N. Cohen, suggests that with the recent improvement in the economy couples may now be able to better afford getting divorced.

According to Cohen, during the most recent economic struggles in 2007, divorce rates saw a decline. He believes that may have been because couples couldn’t afford to divorce, not necessarily because their marriages were stronger. Cohen notes that divorce rates began to jump up in 2010 when the economy began to improve.

Divorce is usually an unfortunate event, which can have many negative affects on the couple involved, as well as on their family members. Although no one really plans to get divorced, the fact is many marriages won’t last. If you are contemplating divorce there’s a good chance you have many questions and concerns. Now might be a good time for you to contact a competent and experienced divorce attorney.
