Going through Divorce? Don?t make these mistakes

Although no one plans to divorce when they marry, things don’t always go as planned, which is why divorce is very common in San Antonio and everywhere else. However, there are many choices you can make, which could hurt you in a divorce settlement. Knowing the right steps to take, as well as being familiar with the mistakes to avoid, can make a huge difference.

In this world of social media sites and relationships, one of the most common mistakes people going through a divorce can make is to post things that can hurt them in a divorce. Making negative remarks about your spouse can obviously hurt your image. However, posting pictures of yourself doing questionable things, or buying expensive items, can hurt you, too. Plus, it’s not just your posts that can hurt. Any friends that post images that include you participating in questionable activities could get you in trouble.

Another thing to remember is that perception is reality. Even when certain posts aren’t what they seem, they can appear to be telling a different story, so one should be very careful what he or she says and does on social media sites. Lastly, never attempt to delete any of these kinds of posts if you have already made the mistake of making them public. According to one divorce attorney, this can give the appearance of trying to hide evidence.

Remembering and putting these tips into practice really make a big difference in how your divorce settlement plays out. The best rule of thumb is to avoid using social media altogether while you are going through a divorce. If you have questions regarding a possible divorce or need help with a divorce settlement, then now might be a good time to meet with an experienced divorce attorney.
