If asked directly, most of the divorced parents in San Antonio who are obliged to pay child support may say that they have no issue with the need to make such payments. However, many with those same sentiments may find themselves missing payments for a variety of different reasons. Some may see their financial situations change, while others may be hit with unanticipated expenses that drain them of disposable funds. Whatever the reason may be, one missed payment may quickly turn into several, and before one knows it, he or she could be facing arrears totaling several thousands of dollars.
Such is the situation currently confronting a former National Football League player. The man (who made NFL history in 2009 by signing a contract that guaranteed him a record $41 million) is currently involved in several disputes with different women with whom he fathered children. Records show that he owes $1600 in child support back payments to the mother of oldest child, who states that he once went an entire year without paying (he could face arrest after failing to appear for a recent hearing with the woman). His former wife (with whom he had two children) has been vocal about his problems paying her child support in the past (including saying that he once threatened to stop paying altogether). Now, the mother of his seventh child has reported that he has begun missing his payments to her.
Whatever the reason one might have for missing child support payments, it should be understood that the courts take such matters very seriously. Often, such assistance is a child’s main method of support. Those who need to seek intervention in helping to collect missing support payments may wish to work with an attorney in doing so.
