Panic attacks and car accidents

A motor vehicle collision may happen for any number of reasons, whether a driver tries to use their phone when they should be focusing on the road or two vehicles collide because of icy conditions. In this post, we will look into a less common reason why these crashes occur: panic attacks. Although panic attacks may not cause very many crashes in comparison to other risk factors, it is very important to be aware of this issue if you or anyone in your family struggles with panic attacks. Moreover, another driver may behave erratically on the road because they are experiencing a panic attack.

Panic attacks happen for many reasons, whether they are the result of an anxiety disorder or are induced by drugs. Someone who is suffering from a panic attack may experience a number of symptoms, such as a racing heart, dizziness or shaky hands, all of which can interfere with their ability to drive safely. In fact, someone who is in the middle of a panic attack may even pass out, which can be extremely dangerous if they are driving a vehicle.

Prior to experiencing a panic attack, someone may be overly excited, stressed out or angry, and this can also be dangerous on the road. Unfortunately, someone who has a panic attack behind the wheel may cross over into another lane abruptly or even lose control of their vehicle entirely. If you were hit by a driver who may have had a panic attack at the time of the crash, this detail should be considered if you move forward with a suit.
