6 injured in 3-vehicle accident on Texas highway

The blame for a rear-end collision in Texas almost always rests with the driver of the vehicle that strikes others from behind. This is especially true when the driver of the other vehicle(s) stop lawfully at an intersection or crossing because even if the driver sees the oncoming vehicle approach, there is little he or she can do to avoid the collision without further endangering the lives of all vehicle occupants. A rear-end collision last week on Highway 73 in Texas reportedly involved three vehicles. Altogether, six people involved in the accident went to the hospital, three of whom received serious injuries and one of whom required transportation by helicopter.

Reports claim that a 47-year-old man was driving a van containing four passengers eastbound on Highway 73 at high speeds. He allegedly came upon an SUV and an 18-wheeler that had stopped to allow a vehicle carrying an oversize load to cross. The van reportedly hit the back of the tractor-trailer before pushing an SUV into a ditch with the force of the collision. Before coming to rest, the SUV rolled over several times. Its driver, a 27-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries requiring treatment at the hospital, where she traveled via ambulance.

The other people injured in the crash include the van driver, who also sustained serious injuries, and his four passengers. The passengers ranged in age from 22 to 61. The 61-year-old required helicopter transportation to the hospital, but the other injured parties traveled there by ambulance. The nature and extent of the other passengers' injuries are unknown at this time. No data is available as to any of the six injured parties' current conditions or prognoses.

The semi-truck driver sustained no injuries, and the eastbound lanes of traffic reopened about three hours after the collision. Those injured in a motor vehicle accident, regardless of whether or not it was of the rear-end variety, may find it helpful to consult an attorney.
