Is that whiplash injury serious?

As a Texan who has been in a car crash before, you may have ended up with soft tissue injuries in the aftermath. One of the most common injuries is whiplash, but despite how common it may be, that does not necessarily mean that it is not serious.

FindLaw takes a closer look at injuries related to whiplash. Some of the most common consequences can include issues like:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Back pain
  • Memory problems
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Balance, motion and equilibrium problems

Back pain, neck pain, and trouble with the full range of muscular motion are often the most discussed and easily recognized of the symptoms. Though the side effects most commonly attributed to whiplash injuries often focus on musculoskeletal issues like soreness in the neck and shoulders, many symptoms can also involve nerve or even brain damage.

For example, pinching a nerve in the neck can cause you to suffer from difficulties moving, tingling or burning sensations in the affected areas, and sharp, debilitating pain. Depending on how strong the whiplash is, you could also suffer from temporary brain injury. Symptoms can include trouble concentrating or remembering things, headaches and dizziness. These symptoms are often attributed to concussions, but can actually stem from whiplash.

If you have been involved in a car crash and have ended up with whiplash injuries, you may wish to seek the counsel of an experienced attorney. Whiplash can be serious and cause long lasting health issues. Thus, gaining compensation for the injury could be beneficial.
