How do military couples handle custody?

Texan couples who have children already have to deal with the complex matter of child custody. But what about couples where one or both members are active military members? We at the Law Office of Roland R. Esparza, P.C., are here to discuss your possible options for handling child custody while being in the military.

Of course, as an active duty military member, you do not always have strict control over where you are stationed. This can make it difficult for you to hold physical shared custody or even a reliable visitation schedule. Even if both you and your ex-partner would like to have equal amounts of time raising your child, this may not happen.

Fortunately, there are plenty of modern day technological tools that can be used to facilitate visitation even if you are physically unable to meet up with your child as often as you would like. Many long-distance relationships these days hinge on tools like video conferencing software or programs like Skype. This allows you to see each other face-to-face and is considered by some to be a better bonding tool than audio-only phone calls.

Additionally, you and your ex-spouse could work out creative visitation schedules that still allow you to have time with your child even if you can’t stick with more typical schedules like weekdays versus weekends. For example, you can switch hosting over holidays or summer vacation.

If you or your spouse are an active member of the military and want to learn more about how to work out custody options, take a look at our web page, linked here. You can also talk to an experienced attorney to learn more about these possibilities.
