Drivers might get into an accident at any hour of the day but when they are tired, drivers are most likely to crash between midnight and 6 a.m. It is also common for drivers to get into a collision in the late afternoon. Some truck drivers may think they can avoid drowsy driving by consuming energy drinks and coffee. However, these beverages may sometimes make truckers think they are more awake than they really are. Professional drivers might still get into a collision even after drinking several cups of coffee.

There are many ways truck drivers can avoid drowsy driving. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, it is important for truckers to realize when they feel tired. If people find it difficult to keep their eyes open or if they yawn repeatedly, they should usually find a rest stop. Blurred vision is another indication that a driver is too tired to be on the road. When truckers know they are sleepy, they should usually take a nap. While some people may think they will be fine if they close their eyes for just 5 minutes, it is best if they nap for 45 minutes. Before truckers get back on the road, they should wait about 15 minutes to make sure they are wide awake.

Sometimes medication can make a truck driver drowsy. If people are on medications that make them feel sleepy, they may not want to take these before getting on the road. One of the best ways to prevent drowsy driving is to get a good night’s sleep. Many truck drivers may not be as alert at night, so it is also a good idea to stay off the road in the middle of the night. Some drivers may think it will take longer to reach their destination if they sleep for eight hours. However, it is important to remember that getting enough sleep can ensure truck drivers are safe on the road.
